Florida Death Metal

Cannibal Corpse

Cannibal Corpse is arguably the most successful Death Metal band in history. Originating in 1987 from Buffalo, NY, the founding members quickly moved to Tampa, FL to build their future. That turned out to be a good decision, and the band quickly recorded some of the most controversial songs of modern times.

The amount of negative publicity garnered by Cannibal Corpse is likely unmatched by any other Death Metal band. So un-popular were Cannibal Corpse, that Bob Dole made specific mention of them as a citation to the degredation of family values in the the United States during his bid for the White House in 1996.

Much of the negative publicity however, is warranted. With song titles that could make even the most seasoned metal veterans squirm, Cannibal Corpse reigns supreme in ultra-violent music.

The sound of Cannibal Corpse has evolved somewhat over the last 20 years. They are a testament to extremely technical Death Metal, and stand as the high water mark for what can be accomplished with the genre.

The band has undergone numerous lineup changes over the years. The only remaining members from the original lineup are Alex Webster and Paul Mazurkiewicz. George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher, Rob Barrett, and Pat O’Brien all came onboard afterwards.
